What is the difference between a kit and a digital download?

A kit includes everything you need to complete your Kinusaiga project: a cardboard frame, foam, a double-sided tape sheet, fabric pieces, printed design and full printed instructions. A digital download gives you the pattern as a PDF to print at home — you source your own materials.

What is included in a kit?

Every DWS Designs kit contains:

  • A cardboard frame
  • Page with printed design
  • Pre-cut foam
  • A double-sided tape sheet
  • A selection of fabric pieces sized for the pattern
  • Step-by-step printed instructions

Do I need to buy anything else to complete a kit?

You will need a craft knife, seam ripper and scissors. 

Tools & Materials

What tools do I need?

For a kit, just a pair of scissors, seam ripper for tucking the fabric and a craft knife to cut the design into the foam.
For a digital download, you will also need to source foam, double-sided tape, fabric, and a frame.

Can I use my own scrap fabric?

Absolutely! Scrap fabric works beautifully for Kinusaiga. Aim for lightweight, non-fraying fabrics such as silk, satin, or fine cotton. Avoid thick or heavily textured fabrics as they can be harder to tuck into the grooves cleanly.

What type of fabric works best?

Lightweight fabrics with a smooth finish give the best results —  silks and recycled sari fabrics are my favourites. Fine cotton, wide ribbons, organza, non stretchy polyester and viscose also work well. Avoid fleece, felt, or heavy denim as they will not tuck easily.  Also avoid fabric with a very loose weave as they will fray easily whilst working with them.

Difficulty & Time

Is Kinusaiga suitable for beginners?

Yes! Our starter kits are designed with beginners in mind. No sewing, no glue, and no specialist skills are required — just patience and a love of colour. Full step-by-step instructions are included.

How long does a kit take to complete?

Most kits take between 2 and 4 hours depending on the complexity of the design and your pace. Smaller or simpler designs can be finished in a single sitting.

Framing & Display

Does the kit come ready to frame or display?

The finished piece can be displayed as-is — the cardboard frame gives it a neat, structured look. You can also mount it in a standard picture frame for a more polished finish.

Delivery

How are physical kits delivered?

Kits are posted by Royal Mail to UK addresses and via tracked courier for international orders (when offered).  Delivery times and costs are shown at checkout. Digital downloads are available immediately after purchase — no waiting required.

Can I order from outside the UK?

I’d love to ship internationally but cannot do that just now due to tariffs and customs requirements
